One book at a time is the first project of our little organisation but on a personal level we have been collaborating with this school for some time now and know first hand how hard the twenty teachers and the rest of the staff work every day to give these children a better future.
The 942 boys and girls of the Makgatho Primary School don’t have an easy life. Many are orphans, other live in children or granny led families, man hostels, informal settlements and refugee camps. The school makes an effort to give them two meals a day but they suffer from basic hygiene and health problems. They are kids that have very little and rarely receive gifts, but they are happy kids, that want to learn to lift themselves out of poverty.
This Christmas, with your help, they will receive a very special gift: a book.
In this way, we want to share a bit of the Christmas magic with these children and promote the reading habit to encourage them to keep studying to build a better future. We have chosen every book carefully, with each child in mind, from the timeless classics to the contemporary african titles. It is not only how much you read but also the quality of what you read that matters.
